ASUS S56CA-WH31 Review

The ASUS S56CA-WH31 is a fairly interesting Ultrabook if you were thinking of buying one but didn’t want to spend all that much money on it. It would also be an especially good idea to purchase this laptop now as it comes for quite a large discount. While its original price was indeed almost 700 dollars, you can get it now for around 500, thus saving 200 dollars for you to o whatever with them.

Hell, if you so choose you could use that money to swap the SSD of the laptop with something larger and even upgrade the RAM to its maximum capacity. Possibilities are endless.

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
A student can definitely benefit from this Ultrabook as, just like the businessman, students are often required to travel. The weight and mobility of this ASUS S56CA-WH31 is more than adequate for travel and use on-the-go. Plus, the fact that it has an SSD (a small one, however) will more than boost the speed of the laptop making it fast to turn-on and turn-off.

  • Casual User
ASUS S56CA-WH31 is pretty useful for any and all casual users (granted, it isn't the cheapest of approaches to give an Ultrabook to a casual user). However, this laptop is pretty easy to use as it comes with preinstalled windows and a few programs put there to make your use of this laptop easier.

  • Business User
Normally I recommend Ultrabooks for business users, and what better business user laptop to recommend than this one? This ASUS S56CA-WH31 is really fast and strong. Its SSD will ensure that it moves as swift as possible ( not to mention the hardware ) and it is also as thin as it gets. Plus, if you have some files to move from phone to laptop or have some large files to move, the Bluetooth and USB 3.0 port of this device will more than help you in that section.

  • Power User
While the 3rd Gen i3 processor that this ASUS S56CA-WH31 has is a tad weaker than the ones you usually see, it's still more than capable of pleasing a power user. You will like it even more if you upgrade the RAM first to its capacity of 8 GB and if you exchange the regular hard for an SSD (with the money you're saving on this laptop, it's a pretty sound investment).

  • Gaming
While ASUS S56CA-WH31 does indeed lack a dedicated video card, provided you upgrade the RAM first you can use it for a moderate amount of gaming. Of course, do not expect Ultra High or even High details in the newest titles, but at least it can run them (perhaps).

PROs Vs. CONs

One of the many great things about the ASUS S56CA-WH31 (leaving its hardware aside) is its operating system. While I personally am not a huge fan of Window 8, I can recognize a good bargain when I see one. I don't know about you, but where I live the license for Windows costs 150 dollars alone, so having it included in the laptop's price is more than good bargain as far as I can tell.

The lack of a dedicated video card isn't necessarily a really big disadvantage as I am guessing the integrated HD 4000 video card should be sufficient for any and all tasks you might have for the laptop. Also, the preinstalled programs aren't necessarily all that bad, as they do manage to help the casual users with not so much tech savvy, but they have to later be removed by those a bit more experienced.

User Reviews: what others think?

As of yet, there are quite a few user reviews. Also, one of the user reviews seemed really well built and I managed to learn quite a lot from them. This ultrabook is a good one, but it is also one of the cheapest you could find (comparing to the price of other ultrabooks). Therefore, since it's hardware seems pretty darn strong, something had to be sacrificed in order to reduce the cost. Thus is the upper lid, for instance. While it is coated with aluminium, it is but a thin layer covering some very flimsy plastic. Thus, the LCD has to suffer as some person describes. They say that upon pressing on the aluminium top, the screen started to flicker and it is highly not recommended for someone to think of grabbing it from that part. There are more things, but most of them irrelevant. In the end, with this laptop one thing compensates for another.

RAM Upgrade for ASUS S56CA-WH31 (turn it into a monster, for cheap)

Summary

In conclusion, the ASUS S56CA-WH31 is a relatively cheap Ultrabook, compared to others in the business. If you are looking for extreme performance in a laptop, this isn't the place for you as the ultrabooks are the more mobile, yet somewhat weaker, counterparts in this relationship. This particular device can satisfy all categories provided you fulfill certain requirements. Of course, some will benefit more than others from it. For instance, this device won't really provide you with a whole lot of performance if you want something for gaming.
