We’ll be looking today at a very interesting Sony VAIO laptop. Now I’m a big fan of the Sony laptops in general. In the past, when purchasing my laptop, I was given the alternative of Sony. I chose to use the same amount of money and buy a different, cheaper brand, but with more resources in the laptop. Up until now it hasn’t disappointed me.

However, truth be told I’ve never really owned a Sony VAIO laptop, but I’ve worked on countless ones before. They are sturdy and can withstand quite a bit, but I can’t actually vouch for anything other than that.

This particular laptop is a pretty amazing one. Sure, its price is a bit high, but you get the impression that you get what you pay for. Perhaps the laptop should have had a bit more for such a steep price, but in the end it is a Sony and you live on the impression that they HAVE to provide some sort of service that will compensate for the high sum.

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
From the perspective of a student, I can honestly say that there is little time available for any other activities other than learning and resting, especially if you already have a job. Therefore, little performance is actually required in your field of activity. Sony VAIO SVE14122CXW is perfect for students. While it may be more powerful than you'd need, if you are to regard what I said earlier, keep in mind that you will also get a few days off in the holidays. Therefore, having a bit of performance you can rely on wouldn't hurt.

  • Casual User
All the casual users I know do not know how to use the PC to its fullest. Most of them just use the computer for net browsing, social networks, movies, music and the occasional Angry Birds game. In conclusion: a PC with its most basic functions can get the job done. I wouldn't recommend the Sony VAIO SVE14122CXW for any casual user as it is more powerful than they will ever need.

  • Business User
A business user should value mobility above all else. Therefore, the perfect laptop for a business user should be the Ultrabook, as it is as thin as it gets and just as fast (but costs a whole lot more). If that is not an option, this laptop should also suit those users quite well. Sony VAIO E14 Series SVE14122CXW is strong enough as to handle any task a business user can throw at it, and then some more.

  • Power User
A power user is the person that know how to use most of the resources of the PC and is willing to do so. That is why I firmly believe that a power user should always get his / her PC made on custom orders and personally decide which part goes where. In certain cases, other laptops can suffice for power users. This is one of those particular cases, as this laptop can handle quite a lot of tasks, mostly due to its 3rd generation Intel i3 processor. Its RAM is also quite good, bust mostly the processor is doing all the heavy lifting. As long as you don't try to go overboard with your activities, Sony VAIO E14 Series SVE14122CXW should fit you just fine.

  • Gaming
The gaming laptop is the apex of laptop technology, having all components at their peak as games usually demand the most number of resources. In certain cases, other laptop can suffice as gaming ones but it is recommended that gamers build their PCs the same way as power users. This laptop may not have a dedicated video card, as most gaming laptops require, but its HD 4000 video card is more than powerful enough as to run all titles. I know this out of personal experience.

PROs Vs. CONs

One of the biggest advantages of this laptop is the fact that it has Microsoft Windows 8 pre-installed on it. While I am not a big fan of it and think it is pointless to use on any PC without touchscreen, I still believe it's a plus that it has it preinstalled. Also, this device has a back-lit keyboard, which out of personal experience I say is quite useful, especially if you're in the dark.

The main disadvantage of this laptop is that it has some pre-installed programs. Usually these programs are just trials begging you to purchase the full version, rarely offering you anything of use. Plus, we all have our specific set of programs that we use, so we won't really use these other ones.

User Reviews: what others think?

So far there have been a few user reviews. Most of them just praise the laptop and what it is capable of. However, I have managed to find one that is a tad bit more critical and have chosen to discuss that one, as you learn more from critics than you do from the other stuff. The most critical reviewer said he / she / they / whatever encountered a problem with their particular device, as it kept shutting down when they tried to exit the hibernate / sleep state. They said they exchanged it for another one of the same model and so far the new one doesn't have that problem.

Summary

In conclusion, this is a laptop that is very useful for Power Users and Gamers that know when not to over-do it, for Business Users and Students alike, but a bit too expensive and too powerful for Casual Users.
