Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...
- Student
From the perspective of an aspiring student hoping to pass all the courses with high grades and also trying to make a living while working in the spare time, I can honestly say that time is the most precious thing, and there doesn't seem to be enough of it. With so little time for any other activities, you may want to consider buying something with not so much performance as you may not get all that many opportunities to use it.
I think this i3-powered Lenovo Z580 would suit a student just fine, but it is a bit stronger than you will most likely need. There may be even a few cheaper alternatives you could consider, but I think this one offer a nice set of features for the money.
- Casual User
From all the casual users I know of, none of them seem to know how to push the computer to its limits and use all the resources it can use. Most of them simply use the PC for activities such as net browsing, videos, music, pictures and the occasional very small game. The conclusion here being: none of them actually require a whole lot of performance
Basically, any computer with the most basic of computing power is capable of satisfying a casual user. Therefore, by extension, this Lenovo Z580 laptop is also good for a casual user. However, I would not recommend it as your first choice as you can find something much cheaper and weaker if you don't plan to use all the power it comes with.
- Business User
The way I see it, the standard business user should value mobility above all else, because you can't have someone that's always on the go hauling a humongous PC around them wherever they move. That's why the ideal choice of laptop for business users, as far as logic suggests, would be the Ultrabook.
However, if said Ultrabook is out of the question, you can always get other laptops as well. This one may be a good choice, although I suspect it is a bit powerful for what you may need it. Plus, you can use the money that this Lenovo Z580 costs and buy a relatively weaker Ultrabook and solve all of your problems. It's up to you to decide.
- Power User
From all my experience as a PC user, I've come to realize that the power user configuration should be one of the best out there, should one desire performance in their tasks. If you want to have a lot of power as a power user, all components aside from the video card need to top notch. I don't see much need for a dedicated video card in these laptops, so a good integrated one should suffice.
As you can pretty much tell for yourself, that pretty much describes this laptop and its way of functioning. It is capable of quite a lot multitasking. While it may not have altogether that much RAM, the processor is a definite plus that really makes a difference. I would honestly upgrade the RAM to 8GB if I were to buy the Lenovo Z580 for power usage :)
- Gaming
The definition of a gaming laptop is pretty much the same as the one of a power user laptop, except you also need to add a strong dedicated video card to the equation.
While the i3 version of Lenovo Z580 may not have a dedicated video card, the Intel HD 4000 integrated card it has allows it to run any and all titles, provided you know how to set your details. I can personally vouch for this video card, as I own one myself and it is probably as strong as a 2 GB card.
PROs Vs. CONs
Perhaps one of the biggest pluses of this laptop is the fact that it has Microsoft Windows 8 installed on it, so with this sum of money you are also paying for a License for Windows 8. Personally, I'm not a very big fan of Windows 8 as I find it looking surprisingly too well like a Mobile OS. Plus, if you have a laptop with no touchscreen, it sort of loses its charm. This is an OS that was built specifically for touchscreens, as the looks suggest.
The fact that it has no dedicated video card is definitely a flaw, but it is compensated for with the fact that it has a strong integrated card.
The pre-installed software, however, is quite bothersome. You will stumble upon a whole lot of programs you don't really need or trial versions that do nothing besides beg you to purchase the full thing. At times, they are quite bothersome.
User Reviews: what others think?
Unfortunately, there are no user reviews of this laptop as of yet. If you want, you could be the first to review it. All you have to do is purchase it and then share your opinions about it to the world via the great and almighty internet.
Summary
In conclusion, this is a laptop good for both Power Users and Gamers, as long as neither of them tries to push it too hard and knows when to limit themselves. Also, Lenovo Z580 is pretty suitable for Casual Users, Students and Business Users, although I am of the opinion that they can also find a much cheaper alternative to this powerful laptop.
