HP Pavilion g6-2237us Review

Being a relatively new laptop from HP, this particular device has the potential to satisfy all tastes in equal measure. Now HP is a manufacturer embedded in my memories. When I was in school and went ANYWHERE, all computers I could find (and printers and so much more) were manufactured by HP. That led to me having an image imprinted in my head that HP had to be to some degree reliable, else not so many people would use their products. HP has failed to prove me wrong yet, so let us hope that this laptop is the same way.

The processor of this laptop is a really strong one. While you may not think that a 3rd Gen Intel i3 processor is so strong, it still manages to score around 2900 points in benchmark tests, and that is much better than your average processor you could find installed in most PCs sold in retailer shops.

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
There are types and types of students, but HP Pavilion g6-2237us will satisfy all of them. It looks good, feels good and works good. The large 750 GB hard drive should most certainly satisfy all tastes and the computer has so much potential for much more activities, other than the school related ones. For instance, play your cards right and this laptop can be capable of running even a decent amount of games.

  • Casual User
Casual users do not really require a whole lot of performance. However, if you're willing to learn and have the cash for it, this laptop can be the perfect thing for a casual user. While I can definitely recommend a cheaper alternative (and much weaker, however), I cannot assure you that it will have so many bells & whistles as this one does. Hell with all of the things installed on this laptop (the hardware related ones), it is pretty much self-sustaining. Also, in the eventuality that you want to keep it for a very long time, it will most surely last. If it happens to break down, it is a HP product after all and spare parts can be found all over the place (although it's highly unlikely for it to break). The HP Pavilion g6-2237us could be more than great for the casual users who can afford it.

  • Business User
A business user should generally keep in mind the mobility aspect. While HP Pavilion g6-2237us may not be the slimmest of them all, it is still pretty easy to transport. Having two USB 3.0 ports really helps if you have to transfer some large files real quickly. However, the lack of Bluetooth is noticeable here, as you cannot simply put your files in your phone / tablet without actually using the cables.

  • Power User
HP Pavilion g6-2237us can suit a power user pretty well, especially if you upgrade the RAM first to its maximum capacity. In that case, it will be so much better for your tasks. The processor will also help in that department quite a lot.

  • Gaming
HP Pavilion g6-2237us is pretty good for gaming as well. As long as you also upgrade the RAM to its maximum capacity, you should have no problem running most titles. Don't expect Ultra High details, however, as you won't get them. The Intel Graphics 4000 is a pretty strong video card. I've seen people on YouTube playing most of the latest games on it (like Battlefield, Crysis, etc).

PROs Vs. CONs

One really great thing about this laptop is the fact that you can upgrade the RAM to a bigger amount, which will altogether boost the speed of all activities quite notice-ably. Also, if you are to consider the RAM (upgrade included) and the processor as a whole, you will find that this rig will bring enough performance as to equal some of the lower-end higher-priced laptops (in certain situations).

The lack of a dedicated video card should be an obvious con, but since the integrated one is pretty strong in itself (the Intel HD 4000 GPU is a really powerful option and it comes with around 1664 MB of VRAM) it can be forgiven. The lack of Bluetooth however, this is something you don't truly miss until you really require. I have been in countless situations in which I needed some files on my phone and time was an issue. In that situation I had to wait for the boot-up (which on my old PC is about 1 minute or so), find the USB cable, transfer the file and then put everything back the way it was. Those are priceless minutes you could save with a small Bluetooth connection on your laptop (especially one that starts up so fast).

User Reviews: what others think?

Unfortunately, there is but one user review of this laptop at this time, and I am afraid it doesn't offer too much information as it is basically the same as a YouTube comment. The one thing all comments seem to focus on (on absolutely all laptops) is the fact that Windows 8 is a piece of software that requires quite a lot of getting used to in order to profit from.

Summary

In conclusion, the HP Pavilion g6-2237us is a laptop that can satisfy just about any category, but it isn't too recommended for all of them. For instance, the extremes of Gaming / Casual should be in doubts here. While the Gamers may not have sufficient strength to run their games at maxed out details (but they do have enough to run the games), the casual users on the other side have too much power than they ever know how to use.
