Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...
- Student
Most students will find themselves running Office (Word, Excel, etc) more often than not. The HP Pavilion G6-1D80NR handles typical students apps just fine. Activities such as net browsing, social networking, music, pictures and the occasional movie aren't really that hardware demanding.
- Casual User
As an entry-level type laptop, the HP Pavilion G6-1D80NR is best suited for the casual user who doesn't want to break the bank. Most of the casual users do not know how to push the PC to its limits in order to get the most out of it. Activities such as net browsing, social networking, music, pictures and the occasional movie aren't really that hardware demanding. Therefore, basically any PC with the minimum requirement of computing strength will satisfy the people in this category.
- Business User
Technically, a Business laptop is usually defined as one that has software already installed on it once you get it. The Pavilion G6-1D80NR fits that task only partially. While it does have Windows on it, I don't think it also has a licensed copy of Office on it. Also, on the matter of Microsoft Windows. Whenever you purchase a laptop that has any form of operating system already installed on it, I strongly suggest you create a few recovery disks for when you want to re-install it. The problem with these operating systems is that they are OEM encoded ( which isn't such a bad thing as it will have a lot of features others don't ) and without recovery disks you risk to lose a perfectly licensed copy of Windows.
- Power User
I suppose it can handle a bit of Multitasking as well, for those of you who count themselves as a bit of a Power User. However, do notice that it has 4 GB of SDRAM. This is something which also needs to be remembered : when choosing your device, keep in mind the RAM type, not the size. 10 GB of SDRAM will operate worse than any device equipped with 2 GB of DDR3 RAM. There's also something to be measured with the DDR3 RAM as they too have frequencies: one with 1066 MHz is substantially less effective than one with 1600 MHz.
- Gaming
you cannot use this laptop for Gaming. Or, rather, you can't use it for any recent games. It will work just fine for any game of up to 2009 provided you choose the right details and resolution. However, this is also a perspective thing. Some people define "gaming" otherwise and aren't referring to the normal games. In case you only want to run browser games or similar applications, this laptop is more than well suited for that task.
PROs Vs. CONs
The processor is strong enough to handle just about anything. The RAM is good, although it could have been better. The HDD is pretty big at 650 GB with 5400 rpm. The video card is more than half decent ( after all, it does have 2 GB of video RAM after all - it can also support DX11 and has Pixel Shader 5 ). It has 3 USB 2.0 ports. The laptop also has Windows 7 fully licensed on it.
The RAM of the device is SDRAM, so it may not run altogether that fast. It has no numeric keys.
User Reviews: what others think?
I've happened to come across a few opinions about this laptop in my long search. Two reviews happened to come by my sight. One of them good, the other bad. The bad one wasn't necessarily for this device. It was made by someone who had a grudge against HP. There are those unlucky chaps around that just can't find the right device. The one that was positive, however, was really helpful. That person said that he / she / it couldn't have been more happy with the laptop. If you need a laptop for college or simply need one for school / business that will move smooth, fast and be reliable for the next couple of years, this is the perfect choice.
Summary
Well, you see, the hardware of this device is good, but it's not nearly strong enough to be up for Gaming. However, it's just about powerful enough to run any HD movie or high quality song or any program whatsoever. It's powerful enough to do that all at once. However, you can't really compare it to the most powerful laptops either. Of course, you can't really compare 400 dollars with 4000 either, so I guess that question is solved. If you truly need a powerful laptop that you're planning on using for gaming, choose another one. However, if per say you are a student, or just about anyone on a budget, this laptop is THE device for you.
In conclusion, the HP Pavilion G6-1D80NR should fit virtually any desire you may have from it. Just don't stress it with strong games as you may be unpleasantly surprised. Other than that, it should be good for any student, any power user, any aspiring businessman and anybody in general.
