HP Pavilion g6-2218nr Review

The HP Pavilion g6-2218nr looks great but isn’t exactly all that powerful. While it may look stunning and while it may be quite a beautiful piece to keep around the house, as a laptop it is mediocre at best. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as in this case it will be much more friendly on your wallet.

Plus, this is a laptop from one of the most long-lived and generally preferred companies – HP. Many people prefer HP over other manufacturers simply because of their wide-spreading and their longevity and history of providing the populace with reliable products.

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
The g6-2218nr from HP is great for a student. It has all of the required strength as to run just about any program and a whole lot of other bells and whistles. You will not be unsatisfied with this one. The 320 GB hard drive of this device should be sufficient for any and all files and programs. Also, the many USB ports and data transfer methods should be great if you have to move a lot of files.

  • Casual User
This laptop is just perfect for any casual user. From any angle you look at it, this device is still the perfect choice for any casual user out there. It has a decent enough hard drive of 320 GB at a more than fast enough speed of 5400 rpms and it comes with a pre-installed version of Windows and some software, so it doesn't take too long for the beginner casual user to get used to it. I honestly think that HP Pavilion g6-2218nr should be more than perfect for most of the casual users :)

  • Business User
As long as you don't require a whole lot of hardware strength, HP g6-2218nr can do as a Business laptop as well. But I strongly advise against expecting high performance in your tasks. Apart from the few bells and whistles that will ease certain tasks, I wouldn't recommend it for multitasking. However, if you have to move large files and you want to do that fast, the USB 3.0 ports of this device will more than soothe your pain as there is currently nothing fast than USB 3.0. Also, if you need to quickly put something on your phone / tablet and don't want or don't have the necessary USB cables about, this device is more than good enough as it has Bluetooth on it, all for the ease of data transfer between devices.

  • Power User
HP Pavilion g6-2218nr is highly not suitable for this category of users. I strongly suggest building a laptop on a custom order if you truly want the best, but you can do whatever you wish, in the end. This laptop isn't the best choice for a power user as it has little performance in the areas in which those two categories require quite a lot. The processor and RAM of this device are not near enough as to satisfy the taste of a power user.

  • Gaming
Needless to say, this laptop isn't near fit enough as to be called gaming laptop. To be a gaming laptop, the device needs to have a strong dedicated video card. Sure, the integrated video card of this device is pretty robust and can handle a few games by itself, but a dedicated card of equivalent strength is net superior to this one. The HP Pavilion g6-2218nr is not a gaming laptop.

PROs Vs. CONs

One of the best things about the Pavilion g6-2218nr is that it comes with a pre-installed version of Microsoft Windows 8 on it. Now personally I'm not a huge fan of Windows 8. I've used it for a bit and have heard a lot of people complain about it. My advice would be to just use Windows 7 for a bit, at least until a more stable build for Windows 8 comes out.

For me, the fact that it is lacking a dedicated video card is a huge flaw. I am a person that makes quite a lot of use of that particular component. I would dare say that it is actually vital to my work. In this case, it is particularly bad as this laptop's integrated video card is also quite weak. Also, the fact that it has some pre-installed programs could be more annoying than you may actually think. Most of those programs are just trial versions.

User Reviews: what others think?

As of yet, there are only two user reviews of this laptop. Both of them agree on one thing only: that Windows 8 is buggy and hard to use. That is exactly my opinion of it, and I strongly believe that it has been implemented and pre-installed in laptops WAY too soon. A more stable build is dearly needed as it seems to give errors to any and all users equally. Feel free to read the complete list of manufacturer published specs in the .pdf over here.

Summary

In conclusion, HP Pavilion g6-2218nr is a laptop that can best suit Students, Casual Users and the Business Users that don't need a lot of hardware strength. It is definitely not recommended fro Power Users or for Gamers.
