Gateway NE56R13u Review

Today we’ll be taking a look at yet another Gateway laptop, but don’t get your hopes up too much as this one is pretty weak. However, if you’d looked at the price first, it would seem the logical answer to assume that this laptop is weak.

Try as you may, you just can’t get too much for a mere 350 dollars or so.

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
From a student's perspective I can honestly say that you don't ultimately have a whole bunch of free time. If you are also working as a student, you will most likely use any excuse for free time to catch up on your learning. The conclusion here being that a student laptop shouldn't really be all that powerful. The Gateway NE56R13u could serve a student quite well, although it is slightly beneath what I would have recommended. However, even so it cannot be denied that this laptop can run pretty much all the things you will need in school.

  • Casual User
A casual user, as far as I know, isn't somebody that uses to force the PC to go beyond its limits. They are people that use the PC for a lot of tasks that aren't quite so hardware demanding. Such tasks may include: web browsing, movies, pictures, music and so forth. That is why the Gateway NE56R13u laptop is just perfect for any casual user. It has all the required things a PC would need and a few extra bells and whistles to help make the experience so much better for any and all casual users.

  • Business User
A business user, the way I see it, should value mobility and performance above all else. Well, performance is rarely an issue to consider, but mobility should be something to take into consideration. I am a firm believer that the perfect laptop for the Business users would be the Ultrabook, as it provides them with all the things they require and comes in a very small package. I suppose this Gateway NE56R13u laptop can probably handle a few of the business user tasks, but I strongly do not recommend it as your first choice. While it can, to some degree, help you, I wouldn't really count too much on it.

  • Power User
The way I see it, the power users are the ones that usually know how to and are willing to push the PC to its limits and even beyond. That is why the power user laptop must have almost all components at their peak (and I don't really find a use for a strong dedicated video card in such a laptop - the integrated one should suffice). Needless to say, the Gateway NE56R13u isn't suitable for any power user out there. I strongly recommend that power users build their PCs on custom orders and not settle for what the shops have to offer.

  • Gaming
The definition of the gaming laptop is basically the same as the power user laptop, except you also add a strong dedicated video card to the mix as well. Needless to even mention, this laptop cannot be used for gaming. The Gateway NE56R13u is not a gaming laptop. Serious gamers should elsewhere.

PROs Vs. CONs

One of the best thing about this laptop is that with the 350 dollars you are paying for it you also get a license for Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium. That's a real bargain right there, if you ask me. Also, the Multitouch and Gesture included touchpad of this budget laptop is something rare to find among laptops of this price range.

For such a low price...none to speak of honestly.

User Reviews: what others think?

There are quite a few user reviews of this laptop at this time. Unfortunately, not all are good. While most of the people only concentrate on one aspect, and that being praising the laptop for all of its good things, I have been able to find some more critical ones (often you learn more from the critical ones than you do from the positive ones). The most unlucky customer had the misfortune of getting a defective unit that had the mishap of over-heating in certain parts and then not responding properly at all. This said laptop overheated really badly on the touch-pad and it made it unusable. Also, the user said that whatever he / she tried to do didn't work, so they had to return the product and get their money back.

Summary

In the end, this Gateway NE56R13u laptop is perfect for Casual Users, somewhat good for Students and Business Users alike, and positively unusable by Power Users and Gamers alike.
