Dell Inspiron i17RN-4823BK Review

Yet another really awesome new laptop from Dell. It isn’t currently in stock but it will be quite soon as I’ve noticed there is some high demand for it. And after all, why wouldn’t there be a high demand for the Inspiron i17RN-4823BK as it is more than powerful enough.
One important thing to keep in mind when deciding to get this laptop is its maker. After all, this is a Dell and Dell laptops are often known to be much more reliable than your average PC. Most people I know of cannot help but tell me how they’ve owned the same Dell for more than 8 years and it’s still running fine. Also, from what I’ve gathered from the comments and reviews, those saying that are not in vain.

Truly, the Dell Inspiron i17RN-4823BK is indeed an extremely powerful piece of technology that can more than handle a bit of stress use and to top it all off, its manufacturer is more than supporting enough in fixing any problems you might have with the device.

The processor of this laptop is a really great one, but then again its name should already tell that about it: it is a 2nd Gen Intel i5 processor, after all. Its benchmarking score is at around 3500 points, which is more than good enough considering the best possible laptop processor in the world reaches a score of 12000.

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
The Dell i17RN-4823BK is great for students. Its price may be a tad steep, but it provides you with a great deal of performance made to more than make up for that. The large hard drive of this laptop (500 GB at 5400 rpm) should be more than sufficient enough for any and all files you may have. Plus, all the other features of this device make it ever so appeasing.

  • Casual User
For a casual user, I'd say that the Dell Inspiron i17RN-4823BK is more than perfect. Not only is it as strong as they get (for a reasonable price), but it is also not very hard to set up. The fact that it comes with a pre-installed version of Windows should be a huge plus for all new users as you just have to turn it on and the laptop will do the rest. This most certainly aids those who aren't very tech-savvy.

  • Business User
This isn't exactly the most mobile of laptops, so if you're looking for mobility as a business user this is not the best of choices. Part of the reasons why is the large 17.3 inch screen, but that's also a reason why this is an awesome laptop as well. But with the Dell Inspiron i17RN-4823BK you are basically trading mobility for performance, and in doing so you are making an investment that will most certainly pay off in the future. Plus, if you have to do a lot of data transfers or you require to quickly transfer a few files the USB 3.0 port of this device and the Bluetooth v3.0 will most certainly come in handy.

  • Power User
When considering to buy a power user laptop, you need to think in what prospect you will use the device. If you require a lot of multitasking, you most certainly require a strong processor and a lot of RAM. This laptop has certainly gotten both ends of the deal covered, as its 2nd Gen Intel i5 processor and 6 GB of RAM are surely all you need in order to multitask as much as you please. If you're a power user on a budget, Dell Inspiron i17RN-4823BK might be something to consider.

  • Gaming
A gaming laptop is to be the apex of technology and have all components at their peak. Unfortunately, this laptop is lacking a dedicated video card. Still, its integrated HD 3000 can handle a moderate amount of gaming, provided you know how to set your details to Low. I doubt it can run the newest of titles, as some of them actually demand a 3rd Gen Intel i7 processor, but as long as you don't have such high expectations, you should be fine with the Dell Inspiron i17RN-4823BK.

PROs Vs. CONs

One of the many great things about this laptop is the fact that it comes with a preinstalled version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. In this day and age of economical crisis, the fact that this laptop comes with a fully licensed version of Windows included in its price is quite the bargain.

The lack of a dedicated video card is certainly something I could notice at this laptop. Sure, the HD 3000 integrated video card is a powerful one indeed, but a stronger dedicated one would have surely made a world of difference. Also, while usually I disagree with preinstalled programs, in this particular case it is good as there aren't actually a whole lot of them.

User Reviews: what others think?

Up until now, I've managed to understand something from the many user reviews of the Inspiron i17RN-4823BK. While some are indeed better than others (in terms of critics), they do seem to agree on one problem I'd like to discuss in more detail. The reviews go as you know it: some praise it for all it's worth and others just throw dirt at it without really justifying it. Now what managed to draw my attention was a pretty interesting design feature of the device, a feature which some would quote as a flaw. You see, if the laptop has its battery not properly locked in, it will not even try and charge it. Many have called this aspect of it a flaw and considered it something bad. However, I am unsure what to believe of this as a user in particular claimed that he tried everything and it would still not charge. The said user later claims to have changed the laptop after an "hour long conversation with tech support".

Summary

In conclusion, Dell i17RN-4823BK is a laptop that can suit pretty much all categories. Of course, gamers and power users and basically anyone that wants to get as much performance out of it as you would from a professionally built gaming / power use laptop will be disappointed. Still, apart from the more than necessary hardware strength in the case of Casual Users, this laptop is good enough for any and all category of users.
