Dell Inspiron 14R N4110 Review

Are you looking for a good and affordable laptop? Do you value mobility above all else? Well, the Dell Inspiron 14R N4110 may just be the answer to all of your prayers.

If you’re anything like me and always find yourself on the go, being forced to use every bit of piece and quiet to do your work, you will require mobility above all else. “Why not get a netbook / minilaptop in that situation?” you may ask. Well, how often did you hear any person say that they can type / work better from a miniature laptop than from a standard one. I for one own a 15.6 inch laptop ( which is generally the standard size for a screen ), and find it a bit too big to allow great mobility. You will not have that problem with this laptop, as it has a 14 inch screen and it is much smaller and much easier to transport / maneuver.

Also, the fact that it is this big diminishes some small features, but then again, you may never really have use of those features. For instance, since this laptop is much smaller than a standard one, it doesn’t have a numeric keypad. However, this laptop has a good reason to lack it, where as some laptops are 15.6 inches in size and still lack that portion of the keyboard.

As the computers tell us: size isn’t everything, however, it is a good aspect to consider in your decisive choice. While you may think this is a laptop just as weak as any netbook, I beg to differ. This device is one of the stronger ones around. It has a second generation Intel i3 processor, which is darn strong, and 4 GB of DDR3 RAM that can easily be upgraded to 8 GB, should the need arise. That’s right, you will only find the basic required components on Dell Inspiron 14R N4110: all that you truly need to do your job without faltering. And while these components may be the common stuff needed, they are anything but common.

As if being a Dell, one of the strongest and reliable manufacturers in the computer industry, this laptop also provides a ton of features such as: Bluetooth, USB 3.0 ports and much more. For such a price to find such a powerful computer, you must really be in luck.

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
From personal experience I can honestly vouch that a student doesn't really have time for much else besides the classes and the work afterwards. Therefore, a student won't really require so much performance or unnecessary things such as a high-powered video card. That is good, as the Inspiron 14R N4110 provides exactly what you require: a strong processor ( not to mention - fast ), a great battery life, good mobility, light weight of the device and a lot of connectivity options for a very fast data exchange.

  • Casual User
A casual user is somebody who uses the PC generally for diverse tasks, however, those tasks aren't very demanding of the PC. Tasks such as web browsing, social networking, the listening of music or viewing of movies and the occasional small game aren't really tasks that require a very fast PC. Therefore, I am somewhat reluctant to recommend this particular device to the casual users, as it may be just a bit more than they truly need. However, if ever you plan to move on and try out some more demanding tasks or want to invest your money in something good and reliable, I wouldn't dare hesitate to recommend the Dell 14R N4110.

  • Business User
As far as I see it, a business user is somebody that requires the things that I just mentioned: mobility, ease of data connection / travel, a lot of storage space and enough hardware strength for them to run their programs with ease. Needless to say, this laptop fits that description like a glove. Well, perhaps the most useful tool to the aspiring businessman would be an Ultrabook ( a very thing and light laptop with good hardware strength ), but since a good Ultrabook costs so darn much, I'd say this is the next best thing. With the 500 GB hard disk, 2 USB v3.0 ports, 1 USB v2,0 port and Bluetooth, I'd say that Dell Inspiron 14R N4110 is by far better than any Smartphone, Tablet or whatever device you were thinking of using in your business purposes.

  • Power User
As far as I see things, the power user is somebody that uses the laptop at its peak: to multitask all sorts of programs and handle just about any task successfully. Therefore, a power user requires nothing but the best, or the fastest in certain cases. Needless to say, no matter how much of a monster this laptop will become if you upgrade to 8 GB of RAM, it will still be nowhere near as strong as a professional laptop built especially for power use. Power users and gamers in general only stick to their professionally custom-built devices as they have their reasons for doing so. On the bright side, if you are an amateur power user on a budge, nothing will help you more than Dell Inspiron 14R N4110 ( as long as you upgrade the RAM ).

  • Gaming
A gamer is basically a Power User that also requires a strong video card. Therefore, gamers usually stick to building their own professional machines (at an extra cost, of course). I would not recommend Dell Inspiron 14R N4110 for gaming. First of all, it lacks the main component needed for games: a strong video card. Sure, the HD 3000 GPU provided by the processor is a Good video card, but there is a great difference between a Good video card and a Strong video card. Personally, if you're building something for gaming, I'd recommend Nvidia. I am not a fanboy as I have tried both Nvidia and ATI (used ATI more than Nvidia, actually). However, when it comes to the games and the Nvidia PhysX things, there is just no comparison between the real deal and ATI's emulation. The difference can actually be felt in my opinion.

PROs Vs. CONs

It is a good thing that it has Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium on 64 bits already installed on it. That means that by purchasing this device you make yourself eligible for the deal Microsoft has right now. If you get any PC equipped with Windows 7, you can choose to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro when it appears for a mere 15 dollars. If the windows isn't partitioned as you would like, you may have to do a fresh install, but you do have the product key on the back in most cases, so you can easily activate it online afterwards and get a clean Genuine Windows. Be sure to back-up all needed programs / drivers before doing it, however.

For me the fact that it has no dedicated video card is a huge turn-off. That is one of the reasons why I cannot recommend it for gaming and / or power usage without thinking twice. Also, I am a person that generally uses the keypad so I like to have it there for ease of access. The Pre-Installed software can be uninstalled ( most of it, anyway ), but in case you can't get rid of it all you may have to do a clean install of Windows ( usually it has the product key on the back so you can activate it online after the installation and still have it Genuine and software-free ).

User Reviews: what others think?

As of yet, I am afraid I cannot say anything about the public opinion, as there no customer reviews available yet. You can change that, however. Just purchase it and you can be the first reviewer of this product.

Dell Inspiron 14R N4110 RAM Upgrade from 4GB to 8GB @ 1333MHz

Summary

In conclusion, this is a great laptop that can pretty much fit the taste of any category. Again, I would not recommend it for Gaming, but it is suitable for power use as long as you upgrade the RAM. Other than that, it's a pretty nice laptop for a really good price. It's great for mobility and it has a lot of features which you would never expect to see in such a low-budget laptop.
