ASUS A55A-AH51-WT Review

Coming out only recently, this most interesting laptop from ASUS is an extremely powerful laptop that can be used for any task, even a few moderate dosages of gaming.

You don’t really need me to tell you how good the hardware of this device is. Keep in mind it has a 3rd gen Intel i5 processors. Now this i series has been a really great one from start to present, but it was the 3rd gen that actually stood out the most. While in the process of throwing science at the wall and hoping for the best, the 3rd gen was the one that was really the most effective. The 1st gens made the dent, the 2nd gens made multiple fissures but in the end it was the 3rd gen that made the breakthrough and made it to the other side.

If you’ve been saving up for a while to buy something good and powerful, look no further. This laptop was originally around 700 dollars, but if you buy it now you’d be saving yourself around 200 dollars, which is a pretty good investment if you ask me. Picture this: you’d be buying yourself a great laptop and still have enough money left for say, a Nexus 7 tablet (nothing good and cheap actually came to mind, but you fill out the blanks).

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
The ASUS A55A-AH51-WT is great for any student, but it is a little bit pricey. With students, especially the ones that try and work part-time, time itself becomes an issue. Therefore, rare is the case in which you truly NEED a lot of performance. Still, this laptop is great as it has a processor strong enough to successfully undertake and fulfill any task you might have for it. Also, the 750 GB at 5400 rpm hard drive should prove plenty strong enough for all your needs (also, the hard is change-able as there are some people that have chosen the SSD route).

  • Casual User
Let's get down to raw facts: any computer can fulfill the casual user tasks. This ASUS A55A-AH51-WT may not be your wisest choice as it packs more strength than a casual user will know what to do with. Therefore, I am forced to say that this is not a cost-efficient choice at all but if you can afford it definitely go for it.

  • Business User
I regularly recommend ultrabooks for the majority of business users as they provide wider mobility than your average laptop. Since this is an laptop almost as mobile as one, it's like a match made in even. This medium-priced, powerful laptop should suit all the business purposes have for it. Need speed? That's no problem as it's ultra fast hardware will get you flying through your work. Need to transfer large files quickly? The USB 3.0 ports should help as there is no faster data transfer than USB 3.0 (not at the moment, anyway). The ASUS A55A-AH51-WT could be a great option as your business laptop.

  • Power User
Now some may say that this isn't a laptop fit for power users. Well, those some would be wrong. At such a bargain and with such a strong hardware configuration, this is the perfect laptop for a power user on a budget. If you upgrade it, the ASUS A55A-AH51-WT can be as strong as a professionally built custom-order power user laptop. The RAM (which are already 4 GB at 1600 MHz frequency) can be upgraded to a total of 8 GB. Also, if speed is what you're looking for, you can use the 200 dollars you're saving on it and invest them into an SSD to further boost this laptop and transform it into a monster. What do you say? :)

  • Gaming
While it is lacking a dedicated video card, know that this particular laptop is more than capable enough to handle gaming. It may not fetch you Ultra High details in the latest of titles, but it will work better than some of the older PCs in most of the cases. As long as you don't expect 30+ fps in Ultra High settings with the newest titles, you should have no problems whatsoever with ASUS A55A-AH51-WT.

PROs Vs. CONs

One of the greatest things about this laptop is the fact that its RAM is upgradable, and it's made on a very easy system that even the ones with not so much tech savvy can manage to do it by themselves. Also, there is no need to mention that this is a PC equipped with a 3rd Gen Intel i series processor. Therefore, it provides you with a whole lot of performance fitting for most user bases.

One of the main disadvantages of this laptop, or at least I find it to be so, is the lack of a dedicated video card. Sure, its integrated HD 4000 video card is strong enough as to handle just about any task, but it is in no way close to a dedicated one with the same strength. Also, I have mentioned on way too many occasions what the preinstalled programs should be used for. They are good for casual users with not a lot of tech savvy, but this laptop isn't exactly one oriented for that particular user group.

User Reviews: what others think?

The opinions about this particular laptop are mixed. While most only praise the laptop for all that it is and for all that it can do, you can manage to find the occasional professional around who knows how to put together a user review in which he states all the flaws (granted, it is a rare sight indeed). The three main disadvantages that this user found, and many seem to agree upon it are: the screen, the OS and the trackpad. There is no need to say that Windows 8 is something most users cannot use with ease, but the rest need to be explained. The screen apparently isn't a matte one, but a polished one instead. Now it all depends on the preferences of each individual, but I use the laptop in the outdoors as well so the polished screen just won't do as it reflects everything.

Summary

Overall, this is a great laptop suitable for all categories as far as its hardware is considered. Its price, however, is a totally different story. The pricing of this laptop can be a bit unfriendly for some categories, even given the great discount that it has. But apart from Casual Users, who I'm sure can find something weaker and much cheaper than this, I am pretty sure that this laptop will make ASUS a mint in sales.
