ASUS A55A-AB31-WT Review

Rare is the case that you find such a powerful laptop for such a low price. I can’t really emphasize how rare it is to find such a powerful laptop that it can easily fit the description of gaming. Before getting mad at the fact that I use the gaming laptop as the highest and most powerful thing in the laptop industry, that is simply because of the fact that the gaming laptops are indeed the true apex of laptop technology. Sure, there are thousands, or more likely, millions of things you could be using your laptop for, but the gaming part is the one that uses ALL of the resources at their maximum. Sure, things such as video rendering are also costly on the video side, but the games are costly on absolutely all sides.
While you may think “how can this be a gaming laptop when it has no dedicated graphics card?”, I’d strongly urge you to think again. This is a gaming laptop thanks to the fact that it has the strongest possible processor-tied graphics card – Intel HD 4000. This graphics card alone has a video RAM memory of around 2 GB. Honestly, the first time I got a gaming laptop I started playing all of the games I never could on my antique PC. It was only 2 days later that I realized I was using the HD 4000 instead of the Nvidia card. Thing is, there is barely a notice-able difference between a professional graphics card designed for gaming and the HD 4000.
Apart from the monstrous graphics card, this device also has a lot of features that make it more than stand out from a crowd. To top it all off, it even looks gorgeous. This laptop, despite all of its strength, is as thin as an Ultrabook and its color and contract with the screen and the keys is just sublime.
Also, should the 4 GB of DDR3 RAM of 1600 MHz not be sufficient to satisfy your needs, you can turn it into a technological monster with 8 GB of RAM.

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
A student is somebody that has little time on their hands to spare for gaming. Also, a student is someone that usually has little money available to purchase a powerful laptop as they have so many expensive tuition fees to pay for. That is exactly what makes this laptop ( especially at the current time ) perfect for any student. Not purchasing it now would be a clear mistake. This device not only has all the strength necessary to run any program whatsoever, but it also has enough strength to run the occasional game once and again.

  • Casual User
A casual user is usually someone that doesn't require so much power as they only use the laptop for social networks, movies and music. Therefore, they do not require a very expensive device as any laptop that can fulfill the most basic of computer functions will suffice. While I do believe that a casual user can get away by buying a cheaper device, should one suddenly have a change of heart and decide they want to do more than what I've already mentioned, this would be an ideal choice. Especially with the price as it is now.

  • Business User
To me a business user is someone that requires enough power to run their daily programs / do their daily routines combined with mobility. Considering the enormous price of an Ultrabook ( the most common choice for the successful business user ) and the fact that this laptop is much stronger than one and almost as slim, there's no possible reason to make you to refuse this wonderful offer. An ultrabook with the same configuration will go for around 1500 dollars, while this one can be bought for less than 500 at the current time.

  • Power User
To me, a power user is that particular user that requires nothing but the strongest of laptops. Well, perhaps not the strongest, but the fastest. A power user is someone that multitasks quite a lot, and in the multitasking process the ones that count most are the RAM and the processor. No dedicated video card is necessary for that process. This laptop has it all : one of the fastest category of RAM, one of the most powerful processors and no dedicated video card ( granted, the one that is already provided by the processor is more than sufficient ).

  • Gaming
As I already said on countless occasions, a gaming laptop is the apex of laptop technology as it has to have the most resources since games usually demand to use all of those resources. This laptop, as I've already said, fits the description of a gaming laptop for the gamer on a budget quite easily. Besides, not even for 600 dollars you won't find anything more powerful than this. Plus, you're given the opportunity of acquiring this laptop for less than 500 dollars. Now if that's not a bargain then I'm not sure of my grasp of reality anymore.

PROs Vs. CONs

This device is, as I've already said a few times, your best possible choice if you are a gamer on a budget. Its graphics card is even able of running games like Grand Theft Auto IV ( the worst optimized game for the PC ) at around 40 frames per second in the highest setting. I know this from first hand experience.

The fact that it has no dedicated card may come as a disadvantage to some people, but then again, the HD 4000 is more than powerful enough to handle any game out there at the current time. Perhaps its only downfall is the fact that it has its speakers on the inferior side.

User Reviews: what others think?

Now the user opinion varies on this laptop. There are those who had a better opinion of it, and there are those with lesser opinions. The most helpful reviewers said that they got exactly what they were expecting. Their only disappointment was with the fact that the laptop has the speakers on the lower side. Other than that, people couldn't really complain about anything else. The most criticizing reviewer said that he received a laptop with a defective track pad. Despite all of his fury and wrath, Asus still responded quickly and offered to exchange the laptop. They explained calmly that despite all of the quality tests, a few bad ones will always make it through.

Turn it into a MONSTER by upgrading the RAM Memory to 8GB DDR3

Summary

In conclusion, this laptop is one of the best possible choice for any category whatsoever. Even some hardcore gamers can profit from it. This is the laptop for the gamer on the smallest of budgets. If you require a powerful laptop that will serve just about any purpose for under 500 dollars, not buying this device would be your worst possible move.
