ASUS A54C-AB91 Review

Released in early July 2012, the ASUS A54C-AB91 is a pretty good laptop. For this price it is especially hard to find laptops with such good performance. Not only that, but it is also an Asus so you won’t really have any problems with it whatsoever. Even in the eventuality of a problem, I happen to have it on good notice that their customer service is highly efficient. Its priced bellow $400 dollars (at the time of this review).

The device isn’t as strong as the most powerful laptops around, but good luck finding something much better for this price range. I don’t know about you, but where I’m from Asus is one of the better manufacturers. It occupies the main positions with Dell, Sony, Lenovo, Toshiba and many others. Now those may not be such important titles where you’re from, but here they are pretty darn good and provide a ton of awesome products at reasonable prices and offer great customer service.

One thing that I like about Asus is that they offer a great deal of diversity with their products. And speaking of diversity, have you noticed that more and more manufacturers are applying the model of Dell with their Alienware devices in creating Build Your Owns? Up until now I’ve seen a lot of them doing it. People have gotten more selective with their demand of technology and most of them already have the basics in mind. Some people may not be satisfied with the configuration that was premade by the shop, so they just opt to build their own device. Thus, they are given the choice on which component to be added to their device. Sure, this costs a pinch more to do, but it offers the buyer the freedom of choice.

Also, if you’re going to be purchasing the ASUS A54C-AB91, now would be a good time to do it as Microsoft is having a killer offer. If you plan purchase a device with Windows 7 on it you can upgrade for a mere 15 dollars to Microsoft Windows 8 Pro when it comes out officially.

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
In my opinion, a student requires no such thing as great video performance or processing speed. If the laptop is good enough to run the required programs for them to do their school work, it's more than strong enough. A student will most definitely benefit from the ASUS A54C-AB91 laptop. It offers enough strength ( from the hardware configuration ) and speed to successfully accomplish any school related task. Also, the fact that it has an large hard drive helps a lot. The ASUS A54C-AB91 should be perfect for any student as it has more than enough things to make it awesome.

  • Casual User
In my opinion, a casual user is somebody that doesn't use the laptop for much else than music, pictures, data storage, the internet and the occasional movie. Therefore, a casual user requires no such thing as a strong performance. A casual user is bound to profit from the ASUS A54C-AB91 laptop. It has all the necessary requirements to be used for casual purposes. It can handle any movie, song or picture you would use on it. It's awesome at internet browsing and it can also withstand the occasional browser game or Facebook app.

  • Power User
In my humble opinion, a power user is someone who requires a lot of speed for multitasking or using complex programs that are very demanding on the hardware. Therefore, not much graphical power is required, but instead, the accent is placed on the RAM and the processor speed. The processor and RAM memory of this device are pretty good. While the processor may not be as strong as you wish, it's still sturdy enough as to withstand a bit of multitasking. As far as the RAM goes, what you see isn't necessarily what you get. While the laptop may come with only 4 GB of RAM, know that they are upgradable.

  • Business User
A business user, in my opinion, does not require so much graphical performance for his / her device. Instead, something like an Ultrabook should fit the task quite well. Well, the ASUS A54C-AB91 laptop can easily be mistaken for one as it has all of its traits. It has a relatively decent processor, a decent graphics card ( which isn't dedicated ), a relatively large hard drive and a lot of RAM. Therefore, this device should be perfect for any and all tasks you may have for it. It should work with any program you have to install. It also has a bonus for the businessman on the go: it comes with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit already installed on it.

  • Gaming
In my humble opinion, one uses a laptop for gaming if and only if it has a powerful enough graphics card. Not only that, but a gaming laptop is the apex of laptop technology as it embodies every strength there is to have. This laptop, however, is not one to be considered a gaming laptop. To use this laptop with games would be futile. Of course, if you'd like to use it on older games such as the weaker graphics ones ( the best ones, in my opinion : oldies but goldies ) it will most surely work. However, with more powerful games you have no change. I'm not even sure if it will run Minecraft, but that's only because it has an Intel GMA and that game seems to have problems with them. Serious gamers should avoid the ASUS A54C-AB91.

PROs Vs. CONs

ASUS A54C-AB91 is a pretty good one with a ton of features to its name. It is lighter than any macbook, it has a really good looking design ( Asus laptops tend to look really awesome ), its RAM is upgradable and it also has a USB 3.0 port. How many laptops for this price can brag about having a USB 3.0 port.

The ASUS A54C-AB91 isn't very good in games, however, its performance is above average in mostly any other task, and that's really good considering this is such a low budget device.

User Reviews: what others think?

As of now I could only stumble upon a few user reviews, none of which seem to be denoting any weird behavior of the device or any serious malfunction. The most useful reviewer stated that he / she was very satisfied by it. The only thing he / she could complain about was due to the fact that the user wasn't informed correctly. They seemed to think that 500 GB was the hard drive space and they were disappointed to see it's only 440. Well, the shops name the hard drives by considering each GB as 1000 MB. However, since 1 GB = 1024 MB, not 1000, the actual space will be different. The most critical review I have found was given by somebody that discovered the RAM ports of the device aren't as he / she was used to. Thus, when ther person tried to upgrade them manually he / she didn't know what to do. The service can help you with that, however, a waiting period of around 2 weeks can follow.

ASUS A54C-AB91 Memory RAM Upgrade to 8GB DDR3 1333MHz

Summary

ASUS A54C-AB91 is a really great laptop. It should fit the taste of any person and fulfill any task given. While it may not be the best for gamers or power users, those persons should be aware that one does not simply get a good and fast device for strenuous work for a mere $400 dollars.
