Acer Aspire S3-391-6676 Review

The Acer Aspire S3-391-6676 is a pretty interesting ultrabook from Acer with a more-than-decent hardware configuration that is sure to help you in most of the cases. The processor of this device is a 2nd Gen Intel i3, or more exactly a Intel Core i3-2377M. This is a fairly strong processor (not as strong as the regular i3s, but then again this is a processor for an ultraboook), but it still manages to score around 1851 points in benchmark tests. That score is not too shabby, especially since it is above the average processors that you can find in most retailer laptops.

This laptop also has a pretty interesting feature which is rare among this budget laptops. Acer Aspire S3-391-6676 is equipped with a 20 GB SSD (granted, it’s too small to even hold the setup for Windows, but it’s probably built in a sort-of raid that boosts the start-up speed of the laptop). Still, it should help you pretty much and if you want to, you could exchange it for a much larger one and keep your windows on it (a 64 GB one may be indicated, or at least this is what I’d like to have in such a laptop), thing which will help you so much in the long run.

Also, this is an Ultrabook and it is extremely light and easy to maneuver around. The weight of this device is around 1.36 KG, which is extremely light compared to the 3 KG of my monster.

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
The S3-391-6676 ultrabook from Acer is great for students, especially the ones that require to move around quite a bit. The mobility of this laptop is invaluable in that part. Also, the SSD of this device will help it boot up really fast and work as fast as fast gets. As you can see, this laptop was built for the student on-the-go. You will really enjoy the (up to) 5.5 hours of average battery life and the weight of just 1.36 kg

  • Casual User
The Acer Aspire S3-391-6676 Ultrabook is great for casual users, but it isn't the most recommended for your average casual users. Sure, the price is great (especially for an ultrabook), but you can probably do well with a Under 400 laptop as well. Still, if your mind is set on this laptop know that the 500 GB hard drive with 5400 rpm is more than fast and large enough as to allow you to have thousands of files and not even feel it.

  • Business User
The mobility of which I talked about in the students part is also applicable for Business users as well. Also, if you have to transfer files quickly between laptop and phone / tablet, the Bluetooth 4.0 of this laptop will most definitely come in handy. Also, if you have large files that need saved quickly on a flash drive, nothing is faster than the USB 3.0 ports that this laptop has. However, you will need an USB 3.0 flash drive to take advantage of that amazing speed. The 5.5 hours of average battery life will also allow you to have long meetings without worrying about the battery that much. Great i'd say.

  • Power User
The Acer Aspire S3-391-6676 isn't exactly the best recommendation for a power user, but provided you switch the hard drives for a larger SSD and perhaps upgrade the RAM (if possible), you can make it a really great choice for power users. The HD 3000 video card of this device isn't the strongest, but it can help you with a moderate dosage of stress-use (I wouldn't recommend it, though).

  • Gaming
Even if you apply the tips from the power user section, you will still not be able to use this ultrabook for gaming. Perhaps it will work with some of the older titles (up to 2011, but no newer ones) at moderate details, however, do not expect a whole lot of performance out of it. The Acer Aspire S3-391-6676 is not a gaming laptop.

PROs Vs. CONs

A really great thing about this laptop is its SSD (which is separated from the regular HDD). This makes it almost fool-proof for anyone to manually switch / upgrade the hard drive at your easiest of convenience. Also, the Bluetooth of the device is one of the fastest out there which will make for sending files between laptop and mobile devices a breeze. Also, the design of this device is beautiful. While most laptops have all things on their sides, this one has them all out of sight on the back of the laptop, making it a real work of art to look at.

A really big disadvantage of this ultrabook (and one that seems to be present on quite a few of them) is the lack of a DVD drive. In many ways, this seems similar to one of those little Macbook Airs as far as beauty and class goes.

User Reviews: what others think?

Unfortunately, there are only 3 user reviews of this laptop at this time (when we wrote this review), and none of them provide any real and useful information about it. All of them seem to focus on one thing: praising the laptop for all that it is and for all that it does. I agree that it's a decent laptop, but it's nice to find the occasional critical review once in a while, as those provide you with the most information (usually). Perhaps the only review that made some real sense was the one of a person who claimed that he didn't have more than 4 hours of battery life (as opposed to the 5.5 which were advertised).

it's frequently bought together with a nice ultrabook protection sleeve

Summary

In conclusion, this is an Ultrabook that can satisfy pretty much all categories with a few small exceptions. First off, I am not sure that this laptop can handle gaming, at least not the games of this year and the year past. Secondly, I believe this laptops is a bit more expensive and more powerful than a standard casual user would require.
