Acer Aspire V3-731-4649 Review

Being a relatively new laptop model from Acer, this interesting PC was probably built for those with not so much cash to spend on laptops. The Acer Aspire V3-731-4649 should fulfill all of your tasks as long as you’re a student, a casual user or a business user with not a lot of power-demanding tasks. The hardware of this laptop isn’t all that impressive (it’s processor is just a bit weaker than the average i3 processor) and it doesn’t really stand out from the line of budget laptops, but what this laptop lacks in hardware it more than makes up for in good-looks. Also, not to mention the fact that the Acer Aspire V3-731-4649 has a 17.3-inch display size (and all that under $500 at the time of this review). I don’t think you will find many big size laptops (I’m referring to that 17.3-inch size) for that cheap very often.

One of the main little flaws of this laptop is its upper lid cover. I did some research when I considered buying one of these laptops and it turns out the use a matte plastic cover for the upper lid. While it’s as sturdy as it can be, it draws fingerprints and dust like a madman. Also, the disadvantage of such a matte lid is that it can get scratched rather easy (easier than metallic covers, anyway).

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
If you're interested in getting a laptop for your student years that's cheap, reliable and can also handle a fair bit of stress usage on it, then this Acer Aspire V3-731-4649 is a pretty good choice. This particular device is good for all sorts of tasks. Its 500 GB hard drive can hold all the files you would ever need, and if that fails to satisfy, feel free to install a 2nd HDD since this laptop can handle more than 1 at a time if I remember well.

  • Casual User
If you're a casual user and require a good laptop on which to do all sorts of things, than this affordable budget laptop is more than a good choice for you. The Acer Aspire V3-731-4649 also comes with Windows 8 pre-installed on it, which I think is great and it will also save you some $$ for that Windows license.

  • Business User
If you're a business user and require something cheap with not all that much of performance on it, this Acer Aspire V3-731-4649 laptop should come in handier than you think. Its hardware isn't much, but the fact that it is equipped with 2 USB 3.0 ports and the fastest Bluetooth at the moment should more than help you out if you have large files to transfer on-the-fly.

  • Power User
The Acer Aspire V3-731-4649 isn't very useful if you're a power user. Even if you consider adding in all of the upgrades, it will still be pretty weak for the kind of tasks a power user has (I think it's mostly because of the processor that score only about 1900 benchmark points, but it's up to you to decide if it will suffice depending on the kind of applications you are about to use).

  • Gaming
I would definitely NOT recommend this laptop for gaming. If you want something really fit for gaming, consider getting something that costs at least 600 dollars more than this one. Try to find something with a dedicated video card, or at least something with an Intel HD 4000 or a Radeon HD 7640G if you're a light gamer on a tight budget.

PROs Vs. CONs

A very interesting feature of this laptop is its support for 2 hard drives. Therefore, if you don't really have enough from the 500 GB hard drive with which this laptop comes equipped, you can always get a new one (or even an SSD, wohooo!) and thus make your laptop run even faster. Also, it is a pretty rare thing to see such a cheap laptop equipped with Bluetooth 4.0, so I guess that's a pretty good thing.

Despite its already implied cons ( the ones due to its price limitations ), this laptop doesn't really have any true disadvantages. Even if it is rough around the edges here and there, the extra bells and whistles it has more than makes up for that.

User Reviews: what others think?

As of yet there are but a few user reviews of this particular laptop. None of them actually offer a lot of useful information about it, however. One of the unlucky ones got a defective unit, unfortunately for him. He claimed that he got one with a line of dead pixels on the middle of the screens. However, in all cases and eventualities, such things happen. With all devices there is a one in a thousand chance of you getting a bummed out unit (maybe the chance is even smaller, but unfortunately it exists).

Summary

In conclusion, Acer Aspire V3-731-4649 is a fairly interesting budget laptop that can satisfy a large array of people. However, if you're looking for something with great amounts of strength, this isn't the answer. If you're someone with not a lot of hardware-strength requirements and value a laptop that can be reliable and also look great, then this laptop is simply one of the best possible solutions.
