Today we are taking a look at the recently launched Acer Aspire V3-572G-54L9 15.6-Inch Laptop. This Laptop has the makings a very good all rounder, useful for just about anyone, no mater what usage they intend.
Acer Aspire V3-572G-54L9 Laptop Review
The Exterior
The Acer Aspire V3-572G-54L9 15.6-Inch Laptop comes in a very elegant matte silver finish. Acer calls it Platinum Silver. It also has a texture mimicking brushed aluminum. This finish is present on nearly all upward facing surfaces. The underside, the sides and the display border have a typical matte black finish.
The Top Cover has the same matte silver brushed aluminum look with the Acer logo on the middle of the right side in chrome.
On the inside we find a contrasting full sized keyboard set against the textured silver finish. To this we have a generously sized touchpad that is slightly offset for better typing comfort. The touchpad has no visible buttons to it. The bottom corners of the touchpad act as the right and left click buttons.
Just underneath the keyboard, on the right side we have the Aspire V logo in black lettering. The power button is located above the keyboard on the left side.
The Acer Aspire V3-572G-54L9 comes equipped with a 15.6″ Full HD Widescreen CineCrystal™ LED-backlit display. This is a fullHD 1080p display having a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080, very good for design and detail work. The display is surrounded by a wide matte black border that contains the HD Webcam in the middle of the top edge. On the bottom edge of the display we have a silver Acer logo.
The Connectivity
The Acer Aspire V3-572G-54L9 comes equipped with all the currently available connectivity options.
On the right side of the Laptop we find the Power-port, the DVD/CD-Writer, and 2 USB 2.0 Ports.
On the left side we find the Kensington-Lock port, the VGA-port, the Ethernet port, HDMI-Port, one USB 3.0 Port and the Mic/Headphones Combo Port.
The Card reader is located on the front edge of the Notebook, right next to the status LEDs on the left side.
As for wireless connectivity the Acer Aspire V3-572G-54L9 comes with WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN and Bluetooth® 4.0.
For such a recently launched device I find it strange to only have one USB 3.0-Port. Most competitors in this price range have at least two ports.
The Performance
The Acer Aspire V3-572G-54L9 comes with a 4th Generation Intel Core i5-4210U processor running at 1.7 GHz. This processor will clock up to 2.7 GHz with Turbo Boost under load, making it very capable indeed. This processor is also part of Intel’s ULV(ultra low voltage) processor family, with a Max TDP of just 15 W. To this the Acer has decided to also equip this laptop with 8 GB of DDR3L(much lower voltage to DDR3) RAM. Thanks to this combination and the 6-cell Li-Ion battery (5000mAh) I believe Acer’s declared battery life of up to 7 hours.
The combination between the Intel Core i5-4210U and 8GB of DDR3L RAM alone should be enough for the performance needs of most power users, but the Acer Aspire V3-572G-54L9 has an ace up its sleve in the form of the NVIDIA® GeForce® 840M with 2 GB of dedicated DDR3 VRAM. This makes this laptop also a very capable gaming machine. Most of the recently launched games can be played in WXGA resolution (1366 x 768) and medium to high detail settings without braking sweat.
A bonus point of the DDR3L RAM modules is that lower voltages will create less heat and this will increase the life of the modules themselves and will also help keep the entire laptop cooler. This laptop has the option to upgrade the RAM up to a maximum of 16 GB if needed.
For storage the Acer Aspire V3-572G-54L9 comes with a 1TB HDD that offers enough storage space for almost anyone.
For discussion on upgrades etc.
