Dell Inspiron i15N-2548BK Review

Dell Inspiron i15N-2548BK is one of the better laptops you can find for this price, but it isn’t the most perfect of them all. Then again, it is a Dell, and you can rely on the extra quality it can provide. I know countless people that can vouch for the quality of Dell products, that and their reliability. All of them seem to agree on one thing: when you buy a Dell you make an investment, one that pays off in the long run.

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
From a student's perspective, I can easily say that if you truly want to be the best and work in your free time, you will come to view time as something precious of which you do not have a lot of. Therefore, there is no need to purchase anything all that powerful as a student. However, if you DO get a bit of free time, wouldn't you be glad for having the extra bit of performance you can rely on? Dell Inspiron i15N-2548BK is pretty decent for a student, if not a bit expensive. However, many Dell laptops share this small disadvantage. Still, its 500 GB hard should prove quite useful and its 2nd gen Intel i3 processor should more than handle all the tasks you can throw at it.

  • Casual User
I know of a lot of casual users, and they all have the same thing in common: none of them know how to use the PC to its fullest. Most of them simply use the PC for web-browsing, movies, music and the occasional small indie game (in the best of cases). Therefore, none of them truly require a whole lot of performance. I could be brave enough as to claim that almost any PC would suit the average Casual User, especially the ones found under the budget of 400 dollars. The large hard drive of 500GB and the preinstalled version of Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium should be quite good especially for new users that don't have a lot of tech savvy. I think the Dell Inspiron i15N-2548BK would be great for casual users.

  • Business User
The way I see it, a business user should value mobility above all else, therefore I believe that the perfect laptop for a business user would be the Ultrabook. However, with the price that those laptops usually have, it would not bode too well to purchase such an Ultrabook, and cheaper alternative should be considered. Dell Inspiron i15N-2548BK can be a fairly good alternative as it has all the necessary strength of a business user laptop, plus it is relatively small and easy to transport. The Bluetooth and many other data transfer methods of this device really make it great for business users, or those that want to transfer a bunch of files on the go in general.

  • Power User
The power user laptop should be, as far as I see it, almost the more powerful laptops around. It should have almost all components at their peak. I don't believe that it is required to have a strong dedicated video card (or any at all, if that), but the rest of the components should be the best out there. Dell Inspiron i15N-2548BK can hardly fit the shoes of a power user one. While it can run some amount of multitasking and / or activities for power users, do not expect a whole lot of performance out of it. While its 2nd Gen Intel i3 processor is good, it would be so much better with a 3rd Gen one.

  • Gaming
The best possible laptop out there should be the gaming laptop. The definition of this laptop is basically the same as the power user laptop, except you also add a strong dedicated video card to the mix. Dell Inspiron i15N-2548BK is pretty usable in gaming, but again I say: do not expect a whole lot of performance out of it. While its HD 3000 video card is quite decent and can fetch some performance in games, it isn't very good in the newest of titles. Even the HD 4000 GPU is rather limited for newer titles, that's why I'd recommend a dedicated video card.

PROs Vs. CONs

You can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for a mere 15 dollars, if so you choose. Also, the Bluetooth of this laptop is almost the fastest out there, which will most certainly come in handy if you are looking to transfer some files quickly between laptop and phone / tablet, if you find yourself in the situation in which you cannot use the USB cable.

The lack of the dedicated video card and the numeric keypad is a big minus for me, as I am somebody that uses both of those components quite a lot. Therefore, their absence isn't something that bodes very well with me.

User Reviews: what others think?

There are a few user reviews at the moment, but not too many of them say bad things about the laptop. Most just say that it is good, but not perfect (which is true, as is the case with so many other things). Both the best rated review and the most critical one said basically the same thing: the laptop is good, but with a little more work it could have been great. Still, none of them regret purchasing it and so far none of them said anything about getting a bum / defective unit.

Summary

In conclusion, the Dell Inspiron i15N-2548BK is a laptop that is good for quite a few categories. Students, Casual Users and Business Users should have no problem at all with this laptop. Although I highly recommend that casual users consider getting something else, as this laptop may be a bit much for what they require, I will have to say Sorry to the power users and gamers, as this laptop isn't exactly fit for such tasks. It can handle a bit of both, but it can't offer performance in any of them.
