Acer Aspire E1-571-6837 Review

We are going to take a look at the Acer Aspire E1-571-6837 15.6-inch laptop priced, at the this time, at 510$. This laptop comes with a glossy black cover witch although looks very good, it will surely be a big fingerprint magnet and will get scratched easily. Apart from the cover it has a very simple and sturdy design. On the inside there is also a glossy silver section underneath the keyboard witch based on it’s color will hide any scratches that might appear. It also comes with a full sized keyboard with a numeric keypad witch will help with fast and effective data input if needed.
The Acer Aspire E1-571-6837 comes with a very impressive 3rd Generation Intel Core i5 3230M with 2.6 GHz, witch with Turbo Boost Technology can go up to 3.2GHz. This feature can be very helpful in case of a high demand in processing power, like for example file compression, or photo editing. This is a very good processor for this price range and it’s obvious they have had to cut down on the RAM and graphics card to get it here. This is probably the Achilles’s heel of this laptop, the 4GB of RAM. I highly recommend a RAM upgrade for this model to be able to use it to it’s full potential. Don’t get me wrong, 4GB RAM is good enough for everyday usage, but then, why would you also have such a powerful processor on it if you will never need it’s full capabilities.
I have done a search for the RAM upgrade capabilities of the Acer Aspire E1-571-6837. It has a maximum memory capacity of 8GB, it has 2 memory slots, of witch as standard it has only 1 occupied with a 4GB RAM stick. If you do decide to do a RAM upgrade on this laptop I have also added a link to a RAM module that is compatible with it.

As for the other features of this laptop I have to say they are actually really good. Yes it may not have a dedicated graphics card, but it has the next best thing, it has the Intel HD Graphics 4000 witch together with the 3rd generation Inter I5 processor combine to make an acceptable gaming experience. The storage capabilities are also on par with it’s competitors with 500GB of space. It also comes with a 8X Double-Layer DVD Drive for writing capabilities. Optical drives are slowly becoming less common on laptops since Ultrabooks started hitting the market.
The only thing missing from the entire package is Bluetooth connectivity. This will make synchronizing with your mobile devices more difficult because you will need a special cable. Other then that it has plenty of connectivity options: 3 USB 3.0 Ports, Ethernet, WiFi, VGA and HDMI connectivity.

Who is it for? discussing who would benefit most from this laptop...

  • Student
I have to say that from this laptops overall specifications and sturdy design, it is best suited for students. The Acer Aspire E1-571-6837 is a full size 15.6-inch laptop with a very good processor. It comes with Windows 8 preinstalled and is basically ready to use.It also has a Numeric Keypad witch is very useful when you have to input a lot of data. If you are also considering some gaming during your free time this laptop will offer a decent experience thanks to the Inter i5 processor and the Intel HD Graphics 4000 combination. There is also 500GB of storage space available for you music, videos, photos, documents or homework. It pretty much has everything a student might need from a laptop.

  • Casual User
The Acer Aspire E1-571-6837 is as a package a bit unbalanced in regards to it's performance. Thus a casual user looking for a laptop at this price range is probably looking for a long term buy, witch this laptop can become with a memory upgrade. But as standard I have to say it isn't a good choice for any long term use. One of it's plus points in this respect is the sturdy design witch should ensure for a long lifetime, but as mentioned before, only with a memory upgrade.

  • Power User
The way I see it a Power User will most definitely like the very good Intel i5 processor the Acer Aspire E1-571-6837 has to offer. It is capable of going all the way up to 3.2GHz with Turbo Boost witch will bring a lot of power with it. In the case of the power user I have to say the RAM upgrade is an absolute must on this laptop. It would be a shame to have such a good processor and only marginal multitasking abilities. The graphic processing ability may also be at the low end of the scale for someone interesting in video processing.

  • Business User
The Business User will definitely like the fact that the Acer Aspire E1-571-6837 has a full sized keyboard with a numeric keypad on it, and also has a sturdy look to it. This will ensure many years of efficient usage with little chance of cracks or breakages. In this respect this laptop is a good buy if you are planing to use it long term. For the moment the 4gb of RAM are enough to run any program from the Microsoft Office Suite and also many others. But I have to say that a memory upgrade is to be foreseen in the future of this device. The lack of Bluetooth may become a problem in case you are thinking of synchronizing your mobile devices with this laptop.

  • Gaming
If you are considering the Acer Aspire E1-571-6837 as a gaming laptop I will have to disappoint you. Yes it does have some gaming ability thanks to it's good 3rd generation Intel i5 processor, but the lack of RAM will cause a lot of problems in most games. I also have to suggest in the case of gaming that a RAM upgrade is really necessarily if you are considering this laptop. Because of the pairing of the Intel HD Graphics 4000 and the Intel i5 processor gaming is definitely possible on this laptop, but only on low to medium levels of details, depending on the game of course.

PROs Vs. CONs

The strong point of the Acer Aspire E1-571-6837 is most definitely the Intel Core i5 3230M processor, capable of boosting all the way up to 3.2GHz. It is a powerful processor for the price. Because this laptop isn't a design object it has a sturdy design to it, witch will ensure many years of functionality. It will most likely outlive most of it's competitors. The full sized keyboard with Numeric Keypad is also a very useful feature if you are in a work or studying environment where you have to input a lot of numbers. The 3rd Generation Intel i5 and Intel HD Graphics 4000 combination will ensure that gaming on this laptop is definitely possible at low-medium levels of detail.

The biggest Achilles's Heel of the Acer Aspire E1-571-6837 is it's unbalanced performance. It comes with the very good Inter Core i5 processor but only has 4GB of RAM installed. It also has no Bluetooth connectivity witch is standard on nearly all laptops these days. Synchronizing with mobile devices is in case of this laptop only possible with cables. In an attempt to make the laptop a bit more stylish they have given it a glossy black lid with is both a very good fingerprint magnet and also very easy to scratch.

Summary

I have to conclude that the Acer Aspire E1-571-6837 is an overall good choice for anyone considering a long term buy. It's sturdy design will ensure it's integrity, and although for the moment this laptop can keep up, a memory upgrade is definitely foreseeable in it's future. The lack of Bluetooth will probably keep some people away, but everything else on it is good enough for daily use. It has everything you expect form a laptop these days, and I am sure that apart from the few drawbacks it will make a lot of people happy.
